The vast majority of the education and training of Biophysics Graduate Program students takes place in lecture and seminar rooms and in laboratories at UCSF’s bold, 43-acre research campus in the Mission Bay area of San Francisco. By design, Mission Bay buildings offer faculty members and students in different fields open, contemporary research space and meeting areas. By custom, space at Mission Bay is allocated with integration in mind; it would be the norm, for example, for biologists and chemists and physicists to work together in labs next to each other or radiating off the same laboratory hub.

The adjacent UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay combines state-of-the-art facilities with a focus on the patient’s experience, and it invites expanded opportunities for translational research while spurring further growth and development of the whole Mission Bay district.

UCSF’s Mission Bay campus offers students open outdoor space, a well-equipped community and fitness center with a rooftop swimming pool, student housing, cafes, small businesses and eateries, shuttle service to other UCSF campuses throughout San Francisco, and many connections with public transportation within San Francisco.

The City and County of San Francisco itself is a diverse, vibrant metropolitan area of tremendous social and cultural depth and breadth and stunning beauty. Recreation outside of the city—from hiking to kayaking, camping to skiing—is within easy reach.
